The Department of Political Science at Miami University is proud to offer M.A. and Ph.D. programs that provide students with the intellectual and professional skills needed for careers in teaching, research, government service, and business. Graduate students may specialize in American Politics, Public Administration, International Relations, or Comparative Politics. The manageable size of the graduate program at Miami ensures that students receive individual attention and are able to work closely with faculty members on research and other projects.
In addition to their formal study, Miami graduate students can supplement their education by working in the Center for Public Management and Regional Affairs and in the Havighurst Center for Russian and Post-Soviet Studies, by studying in Europe in the TransAtlantic Seminar, in Asia in the Shanghai Seminar, or in Africa in a seminar Miami has at the University of Science and Technology in Ghana, or by participating in the exchange program Miami has with Palacky University in the Czech Republic. For students interested in careers in higher education, the Political Science Department manages a College Professor Training Program that provides its graduates with the extensive training the college professors of the twenty-first century will need.
Financial support is another benefit available at Miami, for the vast majority of those enrolled in our graduate programs receive a graduate assistantship that includes a generous stipend, a tuition remission, and the opportunity to participate in the Miami University health care benefits program. Miami also provides special Summer funding for students and a bonus payment program of up to $5000 for specially qualified individuals. Few schools can match the financial package Miami makes available.
Miami also makes a strong effort to help its students as they seek employment. Placement assistance is available both from the Department of Political Science and from the University's Career Planning and Placement Office. We are proud of our record of success in job placement and of the career accomplishments of those holding graduate degrees from Miami.
