College Professor Training Program
The Department of Political Science at Miami University recognizes that the college professors of the twenty-first century will need more complete and diverse training than in the past. Accordingly, the Department has created a College Professor Training Program designed to familiarize its Ph.D. students with all aspects in the life of a university. This program supplements the instruction students receive in their substantive seminars and provides the opportunity to learn about the many duties that are expected of college professors outside of classroom and research activities. By participating in the College Professor Training Program, Miami students significantly enhance their appeal to colleges and universities and increase the probability of obtaining jobs and getting promotions once they are employed.
The College Professor Training Program includes activities in seven areas of university life: teacher training, recruitment and retention, student life, diversity training, administration, supplementary instruction aids, and program design. While all activities are voluntary, students seeking careers in higher education are strongly encouraged to participate. A sample of some of the activities in the program is found below.
