This week is a gratifying one for me. We are in the final stages of completing our final round of admissions to the University Honors and Oxford Scholars Programs for next year. Although not all of the paperwork has been completed, from all indications, we have admitted another exceptionally strong group of high school students. The average ACT scores of these admitted students has risen by a full point, and their high school graduating rank is also higher. Moreover, our admitted pool is more diverse than ever before.
These statistics are heartening, but for me, what has made me even more proud is the role that our current students have played in this process.
Over forty Honors and Scholars students selflessly gave their time to help us redesign our brochures; communicate with prospective student via email, Instant Messenger and phone calls; and plan and implement our many recruitment events. They have hosted high school students on overnight visits, offered them individualized campus tours, and engaged them in conversations and other social activities. Their willingness to help out is a testament to their commitment to Miami and to the Honors & Scholars Program. I could not ask for a better community in which to work and thrive!
