My most significant learning experience in college...
My most significant learning experience while at Miami is two-fold. During my sophomore year I became a Supplemental Instruction Leader for BMZ 115 and 116. In so doing, I worked throughout the year developing my leadership and communication skills, while becoming increasingly passionate about helping others understand the world of science. With these leadership skills, I became a participant in the Urban Leadership Internship Program. In this ten week program I worked five days a week in Chicago with the Shedd Aquarium’s Education Department and on Fridays in The Joffrey Ballet’s Education and Community Engagement Department. Throughout the experience I learned a great deal about independence and personal reflection. In these two instances, as an SI Leader and Chicago intern, I developed my leadership qualities and became even more determined to succeed in the field of education. These experiences would not have been possible without the quality programming and dedication Miami offers for its students.

Extra-curriculars:
While at Miami, I am mainly interested in becoming a Life Science teacher. With this degree, I hope to inspire disenfranchised youth to dream big and look beyond their social and economic label. While pursuing this goal, I am also active in the Miami University Marching Band, Tau Beta Sigma, Kappa Delta Pi, and many other student organizations.

My Advice for a High School Senior:

" I would advise a high school senior to enter into the college environment ready to participate in the many opportunities available. Becoming a college first-year is an experience that only occurs once in life, so it is important to approach situations with an open mind and enthusiastic attitude. This is an amazing chance for personal reflection and growth!"
