What surprised me most about college life ...
When I came to Miami, I was surprised at how quickly I became caught up in everything related to the college. I thought that I would be extremely home-sick and miss my friends so much that I would have to call them almost every day and that I would want to come home almost every weekend! This however, was not the case. I found out that once I got here, I concentrated more on my school work and the new friends that I made! It surprised me that I was so quickly connected to a place that I had never known.. but I love it too! I still make time for my friends and family, but now it's like I have a new family here too!
Extra-curriculars:
STAND (youth-led group against the agenda of Big Tobacco industries), Stand UP leadership team (encompassed STAND and Helpline which involved sexual violence prevention and awareness) Teen Advocates (Anti-ATOD (Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drugs) Big Brothers Big Sisters (mentor Middle school students) Ohio Reads (Read with elementary Students) Student Mentors (Help advise incoming Freshman, Student Ambassadors (helped advise new students to the area), Youth Group
Other than that.. I really enjoy being surrounded by people i.e friends.. but I also love to go out and meet completely new people as well! I love to read, attend concerts (classic rock mainly) and travel!

My Advice for a High School Senior:
"I would tell a high school senior that they should make sure to maintain their academics all throughout their senior year. Even though it can be hard to manage with all of the distractions that can be present, it will help you in college if you keep up a standard work ethic so you can get more used to the workload in college. It will also help you deal with the many MORE distractions that you face in college!” |
