Current Miami students who would like to join the University Honors Program have the opportunity to apply. The application process is both competitive and comprehensive. The number of students admitted each semester will vary depending on available program resources. Last year, we admitted approximately 20 Miami students. For 2009-2010, we plan to admit a maximum of 15 students per semester.

Eligibility
Current Miami students, who have attended Miami for at least one semester, and who are either not currently a member of the Honors Program or who entered the Honors Program prior to Fall 2009 and would like to transfer in to the new Honors Framework are eligible to apply. There is no minimum grade point average required. We encourage students to reflect on their personal goals and academic record and decide for themselves whether Honors would be an appropriate fit for them.

Application Process

The Honors application process for current students consists of three phases: the Honors admission workshop, the Honors application, and the personal interview.

  1. The Honors Admission Workshop: All students interested in applying to the Honors Program are REQUIRED to attend an honors admission workshop. These workshops will be held the first two weeks of September and February. Specific times and dates for the workshops will be announced at the beginning of each semester.

ATTENTION: The Honors Admission Workshops for Fall 2009 will be held Tuesday, September 15 from 7:00-8:30 PM and Wednesday, September 16 from 7:00-8:30 PM. Both sessions will take place in the Honors Office Conference Room. If you want to apply to the Honors Program, you must attend ONE of these sessions.
  2. Because of the unique nature of our program, it is essential that you understand the Honors Program framework and philosophy early in the admission process, in order to determine whether Honors is compatible with your personal goals and interests. These workshops are designed to begin orienting you to the Honors Program and to further explain what will be expected in the honors application.

  3. The Honors Application: Once you complete the Honors Application Workshop, you are eligible to apply to the Honors Program. You will be given access to the on-line honors application at the Honors Admission Workshop.
  4. In general, the Honors Application for current students will consist of an essay pertaining to how the Honors Program aligns with your personal goals, an essay in which you describe your potential contribution to the Honors Program, and a learning portfolio in which you showcase your skills and abilities.

  5. Personal Interview: If your honors application is selected for admission in phase 2 you will meet with the member of the Honors Academic Support Team who will be your advisor upon final admission to the program. The purpose of the interview will be to evaluate your ability to complete the Honors Program requirements.
