| Mission and Learning Outcomes: |
Emphasizing scholarship, leadership and service, the University Honors Program of Miami University fosters a learning environment that enhances students' and faculty's intellectual and personal growth and sense of civic responsibility in a multicultural world.
The University Honors Program makes available:
- Small, highly interactive classroom experiences placing emphasis on student involvement in the creation of knowledge;
- Close interaction among faculty, students, and staff, both inside and outside the classroom;
- Enhanced opportunities for co-curricular and extra-curricular challenge and for greater intercultural understanding;
- Support for individual growth in research, as well as for other forms of intellectual and creative engagement;
- Support for initiatives from faculty and students, either individual or collective, designed to build a community of involved learning and to engage in the larger intellectual and cultural life of the University, in all its richness and variety.
The University Honors Program uses a broad definition of learning that encompasses both intellectual and personal development and that is sensitive to the developmental issues underlying the process of education. Students' learning outcomes for the University Honors Program include the ability to:
- Construct disciplinary or interdisciplinary knowledge by framing problems, developing arguments, making connections and engaging in responsible research;
- Demonstrate a critical understanding of diverse perspectives and cultures;
- Communicate effectively orally and in writing;
- Reflect self-conciously on one's own values, learning process or work;
- Collaborate with other learners productively and purposefully;
- Demonstrate responsible citizenship by putting knowledge into practice for the betterment of society and community.

Requirements: |
University Honors Program students must complete 10 Honors Experiences. At least 7 of these Experiences must come from Category A, and at least 2 from Category B.
Category A:
Experiences worth at least 3 credit hours |

Category B:
Experiences of less than 3 credit hours |

| Graduation: |
To graduate with "University Honors," students must fulfill the following requirements:
- Maintain at least 3.2 cumulative GPA during the first and sophomore years; maintain at least a 3.3 cumulative GPA during the junior and senior years, and achieve a 3.5 cumulative GPA upon graduation.
- Make satisfactory progress towards the completion of the Honors experiences.
- Complete 10 Honors Experiences upon graduation with at least 7 of them from "Category A," and at least 2 of them from "Category B."
To graduate with "University Honors with Distinction," students must fulfill all of the above requirements and complete an honors thesis. |
