Honors & Scholars Facts
Our Three Exceptional Programs!
The University Honors & Scholars Program encompasses three programs:
  • The University Honors Program (UHP) serves approximately 800 students and includes rigorous GPA, curricular and co-curricular requirements. Students are selected based on an essay-based application.
  • The Harrison Scholars Program (HSP) is a full-ride merit scholarship program for approximately 90 students who receive special mentoring and are automatically members of the University Honors Program. These students have highly rigorous GPA, curricular and co-curricular requirements. Over 1000 high school students from across the nation apply for this highly competitive program.
  • The University Scholars Program (USP) is our newest program (formerly named the Oxford Scholars Program) and involves more flexible and modest curricular and co-curricular requirements for its 1500 students. All high school students who apply to Miami are considered for this program; no special application is necessary. Current Miami students may apply online.

Students in all three programs can live in one of the Honors & Scholars Living Learning Communities (Tappan, Emerson, Wells or Bishop Hall). All students receive special advisement, may attend any of our over 100 annual co-curricular programs, serve on our student board (HSAB), apply for special research funds, or participate in any of the dozen or so service projects we offer each year.

More Facts :
A total of 2,462 students are currently members of our program. One Hundred are Harrison Scholars (full-ride merit scholars who are also members of the University Honors Program). 848 are University Honors students (who have curricular and GPA requirements), and 1,614 are University Scholars (who have co-curricular and GPA requirements as well).
The Honors & Scholars Program maintains four Living Learning Communities: two first-year halls (Tappan and Emerson) and two upper-class halls (Wells and Bishop). Although optional, these communities are very popular with our students (especially first-years). Each hall offers a broad array of curricular and co-curricular programs including in-hall courses, discussion groups and various social and intellectual events aimed at high-ability students.
