Donate to Honors
The University Honors Program is delighted to receive gifts and donations from alumni and friends. We have grown dramatically in the past decade to meet the needs of Miami’s most academically motivated students.

MAJOR PROGRAM NEEDS INCLUDE:
  • STUDY ABROAD SCHOLARSHIPS: Make it possible for lower income students in our program to study and research abroad and develops their ability to succeed in a globalized and multicultural cultural world.
  • URBAN LEADERSHIP INTERNSHIP PROGRAM: Strengthen this outstanding summer program which enables students to engage in self-designed internship and community service experiences in one of four urban locations.
  • UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH, CREATIVE, AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT PROJECTS: Enable students to engage in significant learning experiences such as attending professional conferences, procuring laboratory equipment, visiting archives to study primary source materials, covering travel costs to internship or community service sites, paying for advertising for their musical performance, or conducting surveys or focus groups needed for their thesis project.

Get Involved in Honors
Do you miss those college days? Do you now know a few things that you wish you had known then? Are you looking for a way to stay connected to our program and students? You can contribute to Miami’s University Honors Program in many ways:

  • Offer an Honors Alumni Internship
Honors students grow as individuals when they are able to apply their academic learning to life outside of Miami. We seek internship opportunities for our students that help them to become oriented to the professional fields of their choice, through hands-on experience and personal relationships with Honors alumni. More Information>>
  • Serve as an Honors Alumni Mentor
Honors Alumni Mentors make a one-year commitment to develop a relationship with a current Honors student that will hopefully be a beneficial professional and life-transforming experience. Mentors and mentees may decide to continue the relationship beyond the one-year commitment. More Information>>
  • Serve as an Honors Alumni Recruiter
Did you have an enriching experience as an Honors student? Would you like to encourage others to join Miami’s University Honors Program? More Information >>
  • Allow a Student to Shadow You
Are you pursuing a career that Honors students might be interested in pursuing? Do you live within driving distance of Oxford? If so, perhaps you would be willing to have a student shadow you for a day.
  • Visit and Meet Current Students
Are you interested in interacting with current honors students on campus? We have a variety of options for you. More Information>>
  • Host a Reception for Other Honors Alumni
Would you like to interact and network with other Honors alumni? Hosting a reception is an effective way of achieving this goal. More Information>>
  • Receive the Alumni E-Newsletter
At least twice each year, we will create an electronic newsletter that will enable Honors alumni to learn about new developments in the Honors Program, become familiar with opportunities for alumni to be involved or contribute, gain insight into what other alumni are doing, and connect with other alumni.

  Marissa Hirsh

Marissa Hirsch, who graduated last spring, used funds for undergraduate research to travel to Guatemala to develop new literacy programs for orphaned children. She presented her work at the Ohio Valley Philosophy of Education Society Conference in September 2008. Marissa comments on why these funds are so important for Honors students: “I have definitely come to realize how important it is for students to step outside of the conventional classroom in order to find themselves in another kind of classroom where learning happens. Students are taken outside of their comfort zones and are involved in first-hand, hands-on learning. . . . I hope that on the college level, universities come to provide more funding for students to go out in the world and have those kinds of experiences.”
