I am Kari Taylor, the Associate Director of Student Development. I majored in magazine journalism and biology at the University of Missouri-Columbia (aka Mizzou). I initially hoped to pursue a career in health and science news reporting, but through my work as a peer advisor in college, I realized that my true passion is to help students maximize their learning. I moved to Oxford, OH in 2004 to attend graduate school at Miami University, where I earned a master’s degree from the College Student Personnel Program. Outside of work, I enjoy traveling to visit friends and family and hanging out in coffee shops and bookstores.

WHAT I DO IN HONORS:
My primary responsibilities include coordinating Honors advising for all Honors students and advising students in the School of Fine Arts; co-teaching HON 350: Preparing for Life Beyond Miami and HON 480: Introduction to the Honors Thesis; coordinating academic and co-curricular support initiatives; and researching and assessing how students make meaning of their identities, relationships, and beliefs.

MY BEST ADVICE:
The most important piece of advice I can give to first-year students is to stay curious and take initiative. Boundless opportunities for learning exist, but the most valuable ones require students to be willing to explore what is possible and be willing to take the first step.

BY THE TIME YOU GRADUATE:

By the time you graduate from Miami and the Honors Program, I hope you have developed a strong sense of who you are and what you believe while also maintaining a desire to keep learning and growing.
