Dr.
Emma Perez
Dr.
Emma Perez is a faculty member in the History
Department at the University of Texas at
El Paso. She has taught at several universities
in the areas of History, Chicano Studies,
and Ethnic and Women's Studies.
Dr.
Perez' scholarship has focused on Chicana
history and sexuality themes. Among these
include, a novel entitled Gulf Dreams; "Speaking
from the Margin: Uninvited Discourse on
Sexuality and Power"; "A La Mujer:
A Critique of the Mexican Liberal Party's
Ideology on Women; and other works appearing
in various anthologies.
Dr.
Perez is currently working on several publications
projects which will be forthcoming. These
include: Chicana Feminist Identity Formation
and Colonial Discourses: Traversing Borders
and Centuries; Mexican American Women in
Houston: Work, Family, and Community; and
"Tejanas": A History of Texas
Mexican Women.
Dr.
Perez is presently a Rockefeller Fellow
at the Center for Studies on Ethnicity and
Race in America, at the University of Colorado,
at Boulder.
Dr.
Perez holds membership in several professional
associations including, the National Association
for Chicano Studies; Mujeres Activas
en Letras y Cambio Social; Texas State
Historical Association and the American
Historical Association.
Dr.
Perez sits on the Editorial Board of the
Journal of Chicana Studies and serves as
Chair of the Institute of Oral History at
the University of Texas, El Paso.
Dr.
Perez is a founding member of MALS (Mujeres
Activas en Letras y Cambio Social).
She has received various honors and awards
including grants, fellowships and others.
