"Citizens of the World" Theme Year 2004-2005

Call for Proposals

The all-university theme committee seeks proposals for curricular and co-curricular events that will foster a year-long focus during academic year 2004-2005 on the theme, "Citizens of the World." We anticipate that the proposals will describe ways to incorporate the theme into existing activities, such as, courses, lecture series, exhibits, student activities, etc. The Office of the Provost will consider requests for up to $1,000 in matching funds from departments or programs that propose events consistent with the all-university theme that will engage faculty and students beyond one's own department or program.

Proposals should:

• be one to two pages in length
• describe how the event will engage participants in an understanding of the obligations and opportunities of being a citizen of the world
• describe the interdisciplinary and collaborative nature of the activity
• describe the connection to curricular or co-curricular programs
• include an itemized budget
• include a one page curriculum vitae, biography, or other supporting materials pertaining to the proposed speaker/presenter
• include a cover sheet with the signature of the department chair, program director, or advisor of the organization

Proposals should be sent by April 15, 2004 for Fall 2004 events; and by October 15th for Spring 2005 events. Address proposals to Dr. Mary E. Woodworth, 208 Roudebush Hall or email your proposal to woodwome@muohio.edu.

Tsunami relief. TAX DEDUCTIBILITY UPDATE, January 16, 2005: Usually charitable contributions need to be made before the end of a calendar year in order to be tax-deductible. But because the Asian tsunamis occurred so late in December, Congress has granted a one-month extension. Deductions for tsunami relief may be made as late as January 31, 2005 and still be deductible within legal limits on 2004 taxes. Only cash gifts for disaster relief are eligible.
