The College of Arts and Science has existed since the very beginnings of Miami University; indeed, the college is the heart of Miami. As the oldest and largest academic division, the college continues to evolve and grow:
- 6220 undergraduate students (43.6% of university total)
- 56 majors, 55 minors, and 3 co-majors
- 458 full-time faculty (55% of university total)
- 18:1 student/faculty ratio
- 71% of undergrad classes have less than 30 students

Departments, Programs, and Centers
The college consists of 32 departments and programs representing 5 distinct areas:
- humanities
- social science
- natural science
- mathematics
- foreign languages
Traditional distinctions among the departments at Miami are becoming increasingly less distinct, as knowledge and inquiry routinely cross disciplinary boundaries. For example, virtually all of Miami's divisions and many of its departments are represented in the Environmental Initiative and a wide variety of majors are represented by students taking advantage of our Pre-Law Programs. The new Western Program will feature an innovative curriculum for students to integrate their varied interests into a unique self-designed major.

Student Opportunities
The college's academic advising staff help students make decisions about majors/minors/thematic sequences; they monitor academic progress, assist with course planning, and discuss other academically related concerns with students.
Students increasingly secure internships that further enhance their academic experiences and marketability. Current and longitudinal data from the annual survey of our graduates indicate that:
- Nearly 52% of our graduates find employment in the private, government or nonprofit sectors immediately after graduation; and
- Approximately 43% pursue law, medical and dental schools, business school, and other graduate programs.
The university provides multicultural opportunities such as the Mosaic Living Learning community for first year students interested in learning about cultures and lifestyles different from their own.
Faculty in the college assist students to prepare for competitive national scholarships like the Rhodes, Truman, Goldwater, Marshall, Gates Cambridge, Beinecke, and the Udall Scholarships.
Students have many international/study abroad opportunities. They may earn Miami credit at the Miami University Dolibois European Center in Luxembourg. Other summer international programs include study in the Bahamas, England, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Nepal, and Nova Scotia. Our faculty teach many of these classes. Over 1400 Miami students have some kind of study abroad experience each year.
